This page is an archived about me page, because I hate throwing away content. The newest version of this page can be found here: About Shane Preece.
Here’s a page that I’ll refer people to if they ever ask who I am, since in this page I intend that answer that questions. This is by no means I biography, but it reflects where I current am in my life for those that are interested in knowing who I am.
At the very moment of typing this I’m technically unemployed, though not in a lazy bum sort of way. I’ve just finished my A levels – Applied business studies, computing, and law – and so now I’m taking a year out of education. Everyone deserves a break, and I very much want one. When I say a break I mean a break from education, not a year long holiday.
This year I plan find a job, and do that successfully for the year, until I leave for university. At the moment, I’m saving money to by a suit and I’m making money by freelance programming. I’m not entirely sure where I’m planning to work, but I’m sure I’ll be doing some sort of programming, since that’s what I’m good at. Specifically, I want to be a web application developer, utilising PHP, MySQL and the other standards you’d expect.
Once I’ve done my year, I’ll hopefully be going to university. Brighton Uni if I do really well, De Montfort Uni if I just do good. There I want to be studying computer sciences (BSc), probably with AI. Concerning AI, I’m very against a self conscious robot. Maybe that’s just because of what I’ve seen in The Matrix, and read in Demon Seed, but I really do think sentinel machines would inevitably cause the world to end catastrophically.
I like to use serial commas because without them we end up with weird combinations in lists. I learnt to say “and I” instead of “and me” from a Darren Shan book. Unfortunately, I still don’t understand the difference between “learnt” and “learned”, though I expect it’s an English/American thing.
I disable emoticons in MSN. In fact, I barely use MSN. You can email me if you want me, or get me on GTalk.
